Downtown Photo Tour
Downtown Las Vegas is where the city was born on May 15, 1905, when lots were auctioned east of the new railroad station (on today's Plaza hotel site). Before the Strip was started, in 1941, and gradually gained notoriety, it was downtown where all the excitement happened. Fremont Street was "the street" bordered with casinos and tourist attractions. In 1996, vehicles were prohibited to drive on a four-block stretch of Fremont St and the Fremont Street Experience was born.
