Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs
The 2,040-acre Floyd Lamb Park is a 2,040-acre is located in the north of Las Vegas, about 15 miles from downtown. The City of Las Vegas purchased the Tule Springs ranch in 1964 and renamed in the honor of state senator Floyd Lamb. The State acquired the property in 1977, and transferred it back to the City of Las Vegas in 2007.
The park started as a ranch and became well-known in the 40s as a "dude ranch," a place where prospective divorcees could spend six weeks of residency in order to get a divorce, the requirement under the new Nevada divorce law. The historic buildings are still standing.
Two hundred thousand people visit the park every year. It is a day-only facility; only the park's residents (ducks, geese, chickens, and peacocks) are allowed overnight. Besides areas for picknicking, fishing, and horse-riding, the park also features a gun club. The four ponds are stocked with fish on a regular basis.
