Employment

Las Vegas valleyThe Las Vegas valley is the fastest growing area in the country. About 8 thousand people move to the Las Vegas valley every month.

The Chamber of Commerce and the Nevada Development Authority work to attract more business into the Las Vegas valley; the benefits include no corporate income taxes, no taxes on corporate shares, no personal income tax, no inventory tax, and a friendly business climate.

It is estimated that Las Vegas will add 45,000 more hotel rooms by 2012, and the casino industry will need to hire 113,500 workers for positions in new resorts.

"Although sixty-six cents of every dollar spent in Nevada originates from tourism, only one-third of the jobs in Nevada are directly related to the gaming industry." The Las Vegas valley is more than the famous Strip and Downtown. The roughly 20-mile wide and 24-mile long valley has a population of 1.8 million. (The population of Nevada is 2.5 million.) There are three cities in the valley: Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. Several unincorporated townships are regulated by the Clark County. (See map, above.)

Nevada is a "work at will" state; you can be fired (and you can leave your job) without any reason. Certain jobs require a work card.

Be aware that employment applications in some cases will require information about your employment history for the past ten years and such details may include information about your parents and siblings.

Experts claim that less than 15% of the existing openings are advertised in the want ads. You can check the want ads in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the main local newspaper, at this address: lasvegasnewspapers.com/classifieds.
